Formula Strategy
Identify the exact retinoid INCI, product goals and desired sensory profile.

Custom Retinol Formulation, Private Label & OEM/ODM Manufacturing
A successful retinol product is not defined by the largest percentage on its label. At Xiran Skincare, we help beauty brands select the right retinoid, build a stable and comfortable formula, plan protective packaging and prepare for the regulations of their intended market. From an initial serum concept to a coordinated skincare collection, we connect formulation decisions with sampling and commercial manufacturing.
Retinol Skincare Product Development Support
Identify the exact retinoid INCI, product goals and desired sensory profile.
Review texture, skin feel, ingredient compatibility and prototype changes.
Match suitable containers and plan appropriate stability and quality checks.
Coordinate the approved formula, labeling, filling, QC and production.
Retinoid skincare can serve several product positions, but the ingredient name alone is not a product strategy. We begin with the consumer, the target price point and the intended use before choosing a formula.
Retinol is familiar to shoppers looking for fine-line and skin-texture care. Brands can build a clear product story around visible appearance benefits without promising pharmaceutical effects.
A lightweight first-step serum, a nourishing night cream and a carefully designed eye product should not share the same concentration or texture decisions by default.
Retinoid identity, supporting ingredients, packaging and use experience give a brand meaningful ways to stand apart without treating higher concentration as the only selling point.
Explore existing Xiran Skincare product references as starting points for formula discussions. Each can be customized or reviewed for a new brief; specifications and market suitability must be confirmed before launch.
A lightweight serum platform for brands prioritizing a familiar retinol concept, refined application feel and supportive hydration.

| Retinoid | Brand application | Formulation and sourcing checkpoints |
|---|---|---|
| Retinol | Night serums, anti-aging creams, capsule formulas | Verify true active level, oxidation sensitivity, formula compatibility and finished-product stability. |
| Retinal (Retinaldehyde) | Premium nighttime skincare, targeted serums and eye care | Confirm the precise INCI, supplier data, stability, tolerability approach and market-specific status. |
| Retinyl Palmitate | Daily-conditioning creams and selected vitamin A concepts | Do not label as Retinol or Retinal. Apply the rules and retinol-equivalent calculations relevant to its market. |
| Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) | Differentiated retinoid concepts when permitted | Evaluate INCI, purity, legal status, concentration, safety evidence and local regulatory conditions separately. |
We take a retinoid concept through a defined series of choices, rather than jumping from a trend ingredient directly to a bulk order.
We define the target country, buyer profile, format, price tier and intended cosmetic claims. This step determines what the formula needs to accomplish.
We review the raw-material identity, suggested use level, supplier documentation, supporting ingredients and applicable market limits.
We prepare an initial sample for texture, color, odor, absorption and packaging trials, then refine the brief from your feedback.
We plan suitable storage tests, compatibility evaluations, quality checks and any additional substantiation needed for your claims.
We shortlist protective packaging options, align artwork with the actual INCI and review destination-market warnings and claims.
After formula and packaging approval, the project moves through production planning, bulk mixing, filling, QC and shipment coordination.
Our custom formulation service and manufacturing process support the development route from a first brief to a finished private label product.
Retinol is sensitive to formulation and storage conditions. Our development discussion goes beyond adding an active to a base: we review how the complete system will be made, packed, used and stored.
We evaluate suitable antioxidants, processing exposure, color changes and stability conditions. Where appropriate, an assay of retinoid content can be included in the testing plan.
Opaque bottles, compatible airless dispensers and barrier-conscious components can help manage light and air exposure. The right choice still requires compatibility testing.
Niacinamide, ceramides, panthenol, ectoin, squalane and moisturizers may support a more comfortable routine when appropriate to the formula and its evidence.
Choosing the active percentage before choosing a sales market can create expensive reformulation later. We treat regulatory screening as an early development decision, not a final label check.
Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/996 specifically restricts Retinol, Retinyl Acetate and Retinyl Palmitate. The limits below apply to the finished cosmetic product and are expressed as Retinol Equivalent (RE).
Products containing one of the listed vitamin A ingredients must also carry the required warning. Multiple vitamin A inputs must be evaluated using the applicable retinol-equivalent approach.
Not all retinoids fall under the same line item: The specific Retinol / Retinyl Acetate / Retinyl Palmitate limits above should not automatically be applied to Retinal or HPR. Each ingredient requires its own current safety and legal review. For US-facing projects, cosmetic claims must also be truthful and must not cross into unapproved drug claims; for example, treating acne or promising structural collagen changes may change the regulatory category.
Working on a retinoid product involves formulation, sourcing, packaging and production decisions that need to agree with each other. We support the practical handoffs between those steps.
Discuss retinoid identity, supporting ingredients, sensory goals and feasibility with a formulation team.
Refine product texture, ingredient positioning, fragrance choices and intended market requirements.
Select and test airless pumps, bottles, jars, labeling and cartons for your target product experience.
Move approved pilot samples into managed bulk production with filling and QC coordination.
These are typical planning ranges for an approved product pathway, not a guarantee that a new retinoid system can complete all validation within the initial sampling period.
For fully custom retinoid systems: allow an indicative 8-16 weeks or longer for development, reformulation and testing before commercial production, depending on the specification and market. Stability, regulatory documentation and packaging qualification should be scheduled separately. See our packaging customization service for more options.
A hero serum is often the starting point, not the entire range. We can help map complementary formulas with distinct roles, so the brand does not simply duplicate retinol into every product.
