How to Establish an Effective Skincare Routine

With so many skin care products on the market, choosing the right combination can seem overwhelming, but creating a skin care routine can be fun! To make sure your routine is right for you, you should first consider your skin type. Then, you can put together a personalized regimen of cleansers, toners, moisturizers, exfoliants and masks. Within a few months, you’ll be happy with your beautiful skin!

Remove your makeup

If you wear makeup, you should take it off before you go to bed. Some cleansers claim to remove makeup for you, but these may not remove all makeup. You may need to have an extra makeup remover on hand. Use it before you clean your face.

Cleanse twice a day

You should wash your face twice a day, once in the morning before you put on your makeup and once at night before you go to bed. You should also cleanse after heavy sweating.
Moisten your skin with warm water, but not hot water. Warm water helps remove dirt, but hot water can dry out your skin. Apply the cleanser and massage it into the skin in upward circular motions. Remove thoroughly using a sponge or splashing with warm water. Dry your face with a clean towel.

Apply toner after cleanser

After drying your face after cleansing, a toner should be applied. Pour a small amount of toner onto a cotton pad and simply rub it on your face. Avoid the eye area. Allow the toner to dry on the skin. You do not need to rinse it off. If you have dry or sensitive skin, look for a toner that does not contain alcohol.

Moisturize your skin

Your moisturizer will continue to be used after the toner has been absorbed. You can use upward circular motions to massage the moisturizer into your skin and onto your face and neck. Or, you can apply it to the palm of your clean hand and gently pat it in.
If your eyes are dark or puffy, or if you are concerned about wrinkles around your eyes, you can use a separate eye cream. Gently pat the eye cream around your eyes with your ring finger.

Exfoliate once or twice a week

You should only exfoliate once or twice a week, otherwise you could be causing damage to your skin. Be gentle when exfoliating. Gentle movements are enough. Vigorous rubbing or scrubbing may be harmful. There are many different types of exfoliation. You can use washable scrubs, special gloves or sponges, or even chemical exfoliants, such as AHA or BHA.
