How to care for your skin at home

Having regular facials can help keep your skin healthy and glowing. But going to a spa or aesthetician for a professional facial can cost a fortune. Fortunately, you can do it yourself at home to get similar results. But the only hard part for us is knowing the right order to do each step and using the right products for your skin type so you end up with clear, bright skin.

STEP ONE : Cleansing and exfoliating your face
Wet your face with warm water and massage a cleanser suitable for your skin type into your skin. Rinse off the cleanser with lukewarm water. You can pat your face with a clean towel so that it doesn't drip, but there is no need to dry it completely. This is because it is important to keep your face moist while exfoliating.
For oily skin, choose an oil-free gel or foam formula that will remove excess oil and deep cleanse your pores.
For dry skin, choose a cream or oil-based formula that cleanses your skin without stripping it of moisture.
For sensitive skin, choose a cream formula that is fragrance-free and non-irritating.
For acne-prone skin, choose an oil-free formula with anti-acne ingredients, such as salicylic acid.
After cleansing your face, take a small amount of a gentle facial scrub and rub it onto your face. Massage into the skin in an upward circular motion for 30 seconds to 1 minute, paying particular attention to areas of skin that are particularly rough, dry or prone to clogging pores.
Choose a facial scrub containing gentle microbeads rather than crushed fruit or nut shells. It will be less likely to irritate your skin.
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you can exfoliate two to three times a week.
If you have normal or combination skin, you can exfoliate up to twice a week.
If you have dry or sensitive skin, you should not exfoliate more than once a week.
Rinse your face with water and pat dry. After you have massaged the scrub into your skin, splash your face with warm water to wash it off. Make sure you remove any residue before patting your face dry with a clean towel.

STEP TWO : Apply a mask
1.Choose a mask that matches your skin type.
You can choose from clay, gel, cream and sheet masks, all of which remove excess oil, treat acne, hydrate, brighten and soothe the skin .
Clay-based masks are best for oily and acne-prone skin, as they absorb excess oil and deep cleanse pores. They also tighten enlarged pores.
Hydrating cream masks are best for dry, dehydrated or mature skin. They usually contain oils which add moisture to the skin.
Gel masks are suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin. They usually contain no oil, but still provide moisture and soothe the skin.
Sheet masks are thin cloth or paper masks that contain liquid ingredients and can treat a variety of skin problems. You can find formulas to hydrate, exfoliate and brighten.
2.Smooth the mask over the face and allow to dry.
Once you have chosen a clay mask, apply it carefully to your face with clean fingers. If you prefer, you can also apply it to your neck and décolletage. Allow it to dry according to the instructions on the packet. In most cases, you will need to leave the mask on your face for 10 to 20 minutes.
If you wish, you can use a brush to apply the mask to your face. A flat synthetic foundation brush works well.
Follow the instructions on the mask packaging to determine how thick or thin a layer you should apply.
If you are using a sheet mask, take it out of the packet and place it on your face. Press gently to ensure it adheres to your skin. To prevent it from falling off, it is best to lie down while applying the mask.
3.Wash off the mask with water and pat dry.
Once the mask has dried, splash warm water on your face to remove it. Getting the towel wet may help to remove it, especially if you are using a clay mask. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
If you are using a sheet mask, there is no need to rinse it off. Remove the mask and dispose of it, rubbing any residual liquid into the skin until it is absorbed.
4.Apply your usual moisturiser.
After removing the mask, splash your face with cool water and dry your face once more. Massage your usual serum and/or moisturiser into the skin for healthy, glowing skin. If you wish, you can use a toner before applying your moisturiser.
